2000 standards
Just looking at the Wordle, I can see that in 2000 it was focused on demonstrate, practice, and learning. It was almost as if technology was an afterthought and not in the main curriculum. The words that stuck out to me in 2008 was more of a technology based curriculum. Develop, global learning, and exhibit are more showing what students know versus showing what they can learn to do. We have come a long way in the past twelve years. Our students today have access to other parts of the world via distance learning. When I was in grade school, we may have had pen pals in another country and now kids can have "shared classrooms" where they can interact with each other.
The other question dealing with Wordle was critiquing one's writing. This is something I will do with my own papers. I am going to use it with my spelling list for my students to try and see if there is a difference in their grades. In my special education class, I only have five students at a time, so they will be able to play around with the layout and print off their own "picture" to study.
The ISTE NETS that most go along with this assignment:
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity:
a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
