The two faces of me

This was a rather interesting assignment. I played with several different "faces" on Picasso until I came up with one that I felt like truly described how I feel in the classroom. As you can see, there are two very different sides to me. I feel that sometimes, I may look like Cruella Deville to my kids. I have very high expectations for my students and it is easy for them to look at me and think "She is crazy if she thinks I am going to do this or She is the meanest teacher ever!" This is OK with me as I may be the only person my students encounter that push them to achieve to the best of their abilities. The one thing that does remain a constant with me though is my eyes. I am extremely compassionate about my students and even if I may look "crazy" when they look into my eyes, they know that I care.

The other side of my portrait is my calm, relaxed, and playful. I use humor in my classes every day. Sometimes I will base the success of my day by how often we laughed. As adults, we tend to take everything very seriously. Laughing with students or colleagues can change a person's mood very quickly. I notice the class climate is so much better when my students are happy. If everyone made a conscious effort to even smile more, the world will be a better place.

The ISTE.nets standard would be 2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. This assignment would definitely correspond with 2A: incorporating digital tools to promote student learning and creativity.
